Quick selection matrix
Use this table to organize the first technical discussion. The approved project drawing and local requirements always take priority.
| Configuration | Typical planning use | Key point to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Single-face ball or arrow | Compact control and supplementary indication | Color or arrow direction, voltage and viewing distance |
| Two- or three-section signal | Vehicle, access or industrial movement control | Section order, housing and mounting orientation |
| Pedestrian or lane-control display | Crossing, tunnel, parking and gate applications | Approved symbol, visibility and controller logic |
| Countdown or dynamic display | Applications requiring time or changing information | Timing source, display behavior and interface |
Where a 200 mm signal may be suitable
Use the approved road or site design to confirm the signal size. A 200 mm optical face is often considered for lower-speed approaches, compact assemblies, supplementary indications, factory entrances, parking control, toll or access lanes and temporary systems. Viewing distance, mounting height, approach speed, background light and local authority requirements must still be checked before selection.
Do not substitute a smaller signal only to reduce cost or cabinet size. Where a public-road standard specifies 300 mm, 400 mm or another approved module, that requirement takes priority. For replacement work, compare the existing face diameter, housing dimensions, bracket spacing and cable entry rather than relying on the words 8 inch alone.
Select the indication and assembly
The same 200 mm housing family can be configured with red, yellow or green ball indications, directional arrows, pedestrian figures, bicycle symbols, red-cross/green-arrow lane-control displays or countdown information. List every required indication in the signal schedule and show the section order. When a custom symbol is needed, supply approved artwork and viewing direction.
Confirm whether the project needs one separate head, a two- or three-section assembly, a horizontal arrangement or a combined display. State the housing material, visor style, contrast board, bracket, pole interface and required ingress protection. The approved drawing should show overall dimensions, mounting points and the front indication layout.
Electrical and controller information
Provide the operating voltage, controller output type, cable and terminal arrangement, power limits and switching sequence. A product that fits mechanically may still be unsuitable if the controller output and signal electronics are not compatible. Countdown and dynamic displays also require a confirmed timing or control method.
A complete inquiry should include the site drawing, signal schedule, quantity, voltage, controller model, applicable standard, mounting details, destination and delivery target.
