What to Inspect on a Signal Housing After Shipping
A signal head can pass a factory check and still be damaged during handling. Before installation, inspect the enclosure parts that protect the LED module and allow future servicing.
Check the carton first
Photograph any crushed corner, puncture or water mark before opening. Match the carton label to the packing list and the approved model. If several signal variants share a shipment, segregate them by head ID or intersection so an installer does not pick the wrong unit.
Examine the enclosure
Open the service door as instructed by the product documentation. Look for a displaced gasket, cracked hinge, missing fastener or loose internal component. Check that the lens and visor are secure and that the cable-entry part matches the installation drawing. Do not modify a seal or drill an extra opening to make an incorrect bracket fit.
Inspect the complete head from front and rear. A hairline crack near a fixing point can be hard to see in a front-only photograph. If an enclosure is suspect, hold that unit aside and document the carton, model and batch reference for the supplier.
Perform a controlled functional check
Where the receiving procedure permits it, a qualified person can test the lamp at its specified input using appropriate equipment. Verify each indication against the order schedule. A brief power-on check does not replace any project-required ingress, electrical or photometric test, but it can identify transport damage before the head reaches the pole.
Keep a receiving record with photographs and a disposition: accepted, held for clarification or rejected. This creates a clear handover between supplier, freight handler and installer.
