LED Traffic Signal Maintenance Checklist for Modules, Power Supplies and Housings
A simple, repeatable inspection routine helps maintenance teams separate a module, power, wiring, housing or controller-interface issue before replacing parts.
Safe first steps
Follow the site isolation procedure and the approved maintenance instructions before opening any signal head or cabinet. Traffic signal equipment may contain mains voltage and can be connected to an active controller. Record the symptom, signal location and controller phase before changing any component.

Read the symptom before ordering a spare
A dark indication can result from a failed module, missing input voltage, a wiring fault or a controller output issue. A faintly glowing LED signal may indicate off-state leakage current from an electronic output rather than a defective module. Record what happens during each phase instead of ordering a replacement based on appearance alone.
Protect the housing and optical path
Dust, water ingress, a damaged seal or a loose visor can shorten component life and reduce daytime visibility. Check covers, gaskets, drains, fastening points and the condition of the lens surface during routine inspections. Replace damaged parts with the correct size and arrangement for the installed signal head.
Keep a practical spare-parts record
For each spare, record the signal diameter, indication, voltage, lens or module type, housing section position and date of installation. This makes future maintenance orders clearer and helps avoid mixing components with different electrical interfaces.
When to request technical review
- The same symptom occurs across several signal heads.
- A replacement module behaves differently from the original unit.
- There is intermittent operation after rain, heat or a controller phase change.
- The installed controller output type or common wiring is uncertain.
- A project needs a planned quantity of spares for ongoing maintenance.
