Traffic Signal Controller Compatibility Checklist Before Production
Release a signal order for production only after the controller outputs, voltage, wiring logic and timing interfaces have been checked as one complete system.
Why a production-release checklist matters
A traffic signal head can be electrically correct on its own and still be unsuitable for a particular controller. The risk is highest when an existing cabinet, a countdown display or a low-voltage signal is involved. Confirming the interface before production helps avoid site rewiring, unstable switching and late configuration changes.
Confirm these eight items first

Send a wiring drawing, not only a product list
A product list normally states the signal size and quantity. It does not explain terminal assignments, common wiring or output behavior. A terminal diagram, even when photographed from the cabinet door, gives the engineering team the information needed to review the connection plan before shipment.
Useful inquiry package: controller terminal drawing, phase plan, signal indications, voltage, required countdown behavior, country or project standard, quantity and delivery destination.
Check low-load behavior for LED signals
LED modules draw less power than incandescent lamps. Some electronic outputs can have off-state leakage current or a minimum-load requirement. If the controller is not designed for the LED load, the signal may glow faintly, switch inconsistently or report a false lamp fault. The controller documentation should be checked before selecting the module or any interface device.
Countdown displays need a defined timing source
Countdown displays are not automatically interchangeable. A project may use signal-learning operation, separate trigger inputs or a communication interface. Confirm the digit height, color, maximum timing range, transition behavior and whether the display follows red, green or both phases.
Final sign-off before production
- Approve the signal arrangement and indication drawings.
- Approve the voltage and controller-output review.
- Confirm wire colors, terminal labels and common conductor.
- Confirm countdown or communication interfaces where required.
- Keep the approved drawing with the purchase order and inspection record.
