When Does a 100mm LED Traffic Light Make Sense for a Private Road?
A 100mm LED signal head can be appropriate for a short-distance, controlled entrance, but its small face is not a substitute for a public-road signal. The first question is how far away a driver must recognize the indication, not which head has the lowest unit price.
Start with the operating environment
At a factory gate, loading-yard exit or car-park ramp, traffic often moves slowly and approaches from a predictable direction. These conditions may favor a compact head. Write down the approach distance, speed, mounting height, background lighting and whether the signal will face direct sun. If drivers approach from several lanes or must read the indication from a long distance, ask the site designer whether a larger face is required.
The controlling authority may set its own size and visibility requirements even on a privately managed road. Confirm that status before selecting a product. A signal that fits the enclosure space is not automatically compliant with the project.
Specify the complete head, not only the lens
A useful request for quotation identifies the number of aspects, red/amber/green arrangement, mounting orientation, supply voltage, control method, housing material and bracket position. Include a photo or drawing of the installation point. If the head replaces existing equipment, measure the old mounting holes and cable entry; “100mm replacement” does not guarantee mechanical interchangeability.
Ask the supplier for a dimensioned drawing and a sample photograph showing the signal illuminated and unlit. The unlit view helps assess reflections; the illuminated view helps check the intended color and symbol. Confirm whether the quote covers the head, visor, mounting hardware and cable termination or only an LED module.
Make the decision reviewable
Before purchase, keep a short approval sheet with approach distance, product drawing revision, input rating, wiring diagram and mounting details. That sheet lets the installer and buyer verify that the delivered head matches the approved sample.
