An LED signal uses a different light source from a filament-lamp assembly, but the purchasing decision also involves the optics, enclosure, electrical supply and controller connection. Compare the complete proposed module or head with the existing equipment. A lamp-source description alone does not confirm that a replacement will fit or perform correctly.

Record the existing lens diameter, mounting arrangement, connector details and operating supply. Clarify whether the work involves an optical module, a complete signal head or a larger system replacement. Check the front indication and visibility requirements against the project specification rather than assuming that any LED unit of the same colour is interchangeable.

Assess operating cost with model data

Use the documented input power of the selected equipment and the actual operating schedule to estimate energy use. Compare equivalent configurations and operating conditions. Generic percentage savings or a universal service life should not be treated as a quotation guarantee; the relevant evidence must identify the model and the conditions under which it was measured or assessed.

Maintenance planning should include replacement availability, access to the installed head, seals, connectors and any other service items specified by the manufacturer. Ask what the warranty covers and what information is needed for a service enquiry. Distinguish the expected performance of individual components from the support offered for the complete supplied assembly.

Plan a controlled replacement

Ask the installer to review the mechanical and electrical compatibility before ordering a full batch. Where a sample review is appropriate, compare it with the agreed drawing and documentation. Retain the approved model identifier and revision so that future spare parts can be matched to the installed equipment.

The final selection should satisfy the site’s signal requirements and applicable acceptance process. A lower operating-power figure is useful, but it should be considered together with fit, optical performance, controller compatibility and maintenance arrangements.
