A wrong conductor, a missed earth bond or a loose terminal turns a perfectly good controller into an intermittent failure. The Standard Cabinet Sections

A GAOQIAO controller cabinet is divided into five sections from top to bottom:

1. Output panel: one terminal per switched signal indication (red, yellow, green, arrow, pedestrian). 22 to 56 outputs depending on controller capacity. 2. Conflict monitor (MMU): a separate safety module that watches the output panel and forces the intersection to flashing red if it detects a conflict. 3. Detector rack: terminals for loop amplifiers, video detector inputs and pedestrian push button inputs. 4. Power supply and surge protection: 110V or 220V AC input, 24V DC bus for accessories, surge arrestors on every external conductor. 5. Service panel: incoming AC mains, breaker, neutral and ground bus, cabinet light, heater and fan circuits.

Each section is wired from above so that a fault in a lower section cannot drop a higher one. The output panel is the most sensitive because every signal head conductor lands there.

Output Panel Terminal Layout

On a 22-output controller, the output panel is laid out in groups of four: red, yellow, green and common. Terminal 1-4 is phase 1, terminal 5-8 is phase 2, and so on. A 56-output controller adds a second output panel to the right; the second panel starts at terminal 57.

For each terminal pair: - The switched conductor (red/yellow/green) lands on its labelled terminal. - The common conductor lands on the COM bus bar that runs the length of the panel. - A spare terminal is reserved for monitoring if the cabinet includes a serial log interface.

Cable gauge is typically 14 AWG for the switched conductors and 10 AWG for the common, sized to the total run length from the cabinet to the signal head.

Detector Rack Terminals

The detector rack has one terminal block per detector channel. Each block has four terminals:

Power Supply and Surge Protection

The power supply section converts incoming AC to the DC voltages used by the controller and accessories: typically 24V DC for the controller logic, 12V DC for fans and low-power accessories, and a separate 110V or AC bus for the signal heads themselves.

Every external conductor that leaves the cabinet must pass through a surge arrester. This includes signal head conductors, detector loop feeds, communication cables and the AC mains input. GAOQIAO cabinets include surge arrestors on the output panel, the detector rack and the communication port, all bonded to a single ground bus that exits the cabinet on a dedicated earth rod.

Conflict Monitor (MMU) Wiring

The conflict monitor is wired in parallel with the controller outputs. It does not drive the signal heads directly; it watches the same output terminals and forces flashing red if it sees two conflicting greens or any other illegal state.

The only field wiring required is the AC voltage sense lead (so the MMU knows the intersection is energized) and the conflict programming jumpers that match the intersection geometry. Harness and Cable Management

Inside the cabinet, every conductor must be tied to a harness and labelled at both ends. GAOQIAO uses numbered heat-shrink markers that match the wiring diagram supplied with each cabinet. The harness routes are designed so that the door opens and closes without binding on any wire.

Use stranded wire, not solid, for any conductor that moves when the door opens. Use ring or fork terminals crimped with a calibrated tool, not twisted strands under a screw. Re-torque every terminal during commissioning and again at the 30-day check.
