Traffic Light IP Reports: Match Evidence to the Model

14 October 2026 · GAOQIAO Traffic Technology

An IP rating in a product description is useful only when the supporting evidence applies to the proposed equipment. Before approving a traffic light submittal, connect the report to the exact model and enclosure configuration. A report for a different housing or cable-entry arrangement leaves an important question unresolved.

Identify what the report covers

IEC 60529 classifies degrees of protection provided by electrical equipment enclosures through the IP Code. For procurement, begin with the report's product identity, tested configuration, referenced standard and result. Record those details alongside the proposed model.

Keep ingress protection separate from other requirements such as impact resistance, corrosion, temperature or optical performance. An IP report should not be presented as proof of those properties or as a general certification of the complete traffic-control system.

Compare the assembly configuration

ItemEvidence to compare
Product identityReport model designation and proposed model label
HousingMaterial, construction and enclosure arrangement shown in the report
Front assemblyLens or cover and its sealing interface
Cable entryEntry fittings and configuration included in the tested assembly
ClosureGaskets, covers and fastening arrangement
Result and scopeStated classification, test conditions and any limitations

The objective is a documented configuration match, not a visual judgement that two housings look alike. If model names differ, request a written explanation of their relationship and have the responsible reviewer decide whether the evidence is applicable.

Ask about changes after testing

A revised lens, gasket, cover or cable entry may need further review. Ask the supplier to identify differences between the tested unit and the offered assembly. Keep that response with the report. Do not silently assume that an old document covers every later version.

For replacement work, establish whether the original enclosure will be retained and whether the replacement changes the sealing arrangement. Evidence for a new complete head does not automatically describe the condition of an existing housing in service.

Write a focused approval question

A useful question is: “Does this report cover model X with the supplied cover, gasket and cable-entry configuration shown on drawing Y?” Attach the actual drawing and report rather than asking whether the product is simply “waterproof”. The project specification should state the required classification and acceptance process.

For a GAOQIAO enquiry, send the required IP classification, model or drawing reference, country and quantity to sky-sale@njgq.net. Request applicable evidence for the proposed configuration before accepting any performance claim.
