Bicycle Traffic Signals: Approving the Pictogram

14 October 2026 · GAOQIAO Traffic Technology

A bicycle traffic signal enquiry should include the approved symbol, not simply the phrase “bicycle light”. The pictogram, colour and face size must describe the same item across the equipment schedule, artwork and model documentation. That shared reference helps prevent a visually similar product from being mistaken for an approved configuration.

Start with the project artwork

Request the symbol or drawing accepted by the road authority or project designer. Record its revision and the required front-view orientation. If the procurement team has only a photograph, label it as a reference image and ask for the approved artwork before production details are confirmed.

Do not treat an image from another country's installation as evidence that a pattern is permitted locally. The governing traffic-control requirements and any specific approval process belong to the project's responsible authority.

Specify the whole assembly

FieldWhat the buyer should record
SymbolApproved bicycle pictogram file or drawing reference
DisplayRequired colour and nominal face size
ArrangementSingle indication or complete head layout
InterfaceSelected electrical version and control requirements
InstallationHousing, bracket and cable-entry drawing
EvidenceRequired reports and documentation for the proposed model

Keep a module-only enquiry separate from a complete-head enquiry. When the existing housing will be reused, add aperture, retaining and sealing-interface information. A nominal size match alone does not resolve those interfaces.

Review appearance and evidence separately

A sample image can help the designer compare the proposed symbol with the approved artwork. It is not a substitute for required optical or colour evidence. Ask for model-specific documentation and record which configuration each report describes.

Where a physical sample is required, agree what will be reviewed: pictogram, assembly dimensions, labels, connector or other documented features. Write down the outcome and any changes requested. This gives the final order a clearer basis than a general comment such as “sample looks fine”.

Maintain the artwork revision through delivery

Include the approved drawing reference on the order and packing schedule. At receiving, compare the symbol, colour, face size and model label against the accepted configuration. Keep photographs of the delivered face with the inspection record. Resolve differences before installation rather than changing the symbol or mounting arrangement without authorisation.

GAOQIAO enquiries can be sent to sky-sale@njgq.net. Include the country, quantity, required pictogram and project documentation. Availability and suitability of a particular configuration should be confirmed against those details; a general bicycle-signal page is not a project approval.
