Pedestrian Countdown Signals: Submittal Review Checklist
14 October 2026 · GAOQIAO Traffic Technology
A pedestrian countdown display needs to be reviewed as part of the crossing's control arrangement. The visible digits are only one part of the submittal. Buyers should also identify the pedestrian indication, model, interface and approved operating requirements before accepting equipment for a project.
Separate visual display and accessibility scope
A visual pedestrian symbol or countdown does not, by itself, establish that a crossing has accessible pedestrian signals. The US Access Board describes audible and vibrotactile walk indications in its public right-of-way accessibility guidelines. Those functions need their own equipment and system review where applicable.
Use the US Access Board guidelines as a primary reference for that distinction, and have the responsible authority determine the requirements that apply to the project. Do not describe an ordinary visual display as an APS product without evidence for the actual supplied system.
Collect the display and interface requirements
| Review item | Question for the submittal |
|---|---|
| Display arrangement | Which symbols, colours and countdown elements are required? |
| Model identity | Which exact model and electrical version is proposed? |
| Control interface | What signals or connections are required by the controller design? |
| Operating sequence | Which approved sequence and timing requirements must the equipment support? |
| Mounting | Does the complete assembly fit the approved installation detail? |
| Documentation | Are the model drawing and operating instructions included? |
Ask the system designer to define the operating sequence. Avoid filling a missing specification with a timing value found on another project. Also establish whether the enquiry covers the display only or additional control and accessibility equipment.
Review a complete configuration
Compare the proposed model with the cabinet and controller documentation. The same-looking display can be offered in different electrical or control versions. A front photograph is useful for identifying the layout but cannot prove that the proposed unit will work with the intended control system.
Check the mounting drawing, visor or screen arrangement, cable entry and service access. Record the governing drawing revision and keep any exceptions visible. Where project approval requires test reports, request evidence for the selected configuration and have it reviewed by the responsible party.
Keep acceptance tied to the approved design
The procurement file should contain a display schedule, model confirmation, interface documents, approved drawings and the agreed inspection procedure. Installation and commissioning should be performed by qualified personnel under the project requirements.
For a GAOQIAO enquiry, send the required visual display, country, quantity and system-interface specification to sky-sale@njgq.net. Identify any separate APS requirement explicitly so it can be reviewed without assuming that countdown functionality covers it.
