Traffic Signal RFQ Checklist: Specify Each Signal Head

A useful traffic signal RFQ lets the buyer compare the same configuration across quotations. For traditional signal heads, identify every indication, electrical input, mounting interface and destination before asking for a price or dispatch date.

Project header

Ask the supplier to state any assumption or exclusion explicitly. Certification or conformity should be checked against the proposed model and supporting documents, not inferred from a broad product category.

Signal-head schedule

Give each head a unique ID that also appears on the site drawing. For every ID, include the number and order of aspects, face diameter, red/amber/green or arrow/pedestrian symbol, viewing direction, housing material, visor and bracket type, input rating, quantity and relevant drawing revision.

A 200 mm red light is not a complete specification: the buyer may need a full head, a replacement LED module, or a custom arrow indication. Photographs of the existing front, rear, rating label and mounting point help when the order is a retrofit.

Electrical and interface details

Attach an aspect-to-controller-output schedule and identify any countdown, dimming or monitoring function separately. Request the supplier's proposed wiring diagram for review by the controller integrator. Avoid describing connections by wire colour alone.

Quality and OEM requirements

If the project requires a particular logo, rating label, carton mark or inspection record, provide an approved artwork file and acceptance checklist. Define the sample or drawing revision that will govern production. Ask which tests and photographs can be supplied for the selected configuration.

Packing and delivery

Specify whether cartons should be labelled by SKU, intersection or head ID. For mixed shipments, provide a head-to-carton map. Request separate confirmation of configuration readiness, packing, carrier handover and transit estimate; these are different milestones.
