Arrow LED Traffic Light: Evaluate the Pattern, Not Just Brightness
Updated 12 October 2026 · GAOQIAO Traffic Technology
An arrow LED traffic light communicates a direction through a defined illuminated pattern. When reviewing a proposed product, buyers should assess the complete optical assembly rather than comparing LED counts or choosing whichever photograph looks brightest.
Recent manufacturer technical content has placed more attention on arrow optics. FAMA's September 2026 news list, for example, includes a discussion of red-arrow optical processing. That is a useful prompt to ask better procurement questions, not evidence that another manufacturer's product uses the same design. See FAMA's technical news.
Specify the approved arrow configuration
Identify the required direction, colour, nominal size and aspect arrangement. Use the approved drawing to distinguish a directional arrow from a full ball or a lane-control display. An arrow module should not be substituted for another indication without the project's design review.
For a mixed order, include a clear orientation reference. A written phrase such as "turn arrow" can leave room for misunderstanding when drawings, packing labels and site schedules are prepared by different teams.
Ask for measurements linked to the product
Request the optical documentation called for by the destination specification. It should identify the tested module, pattern, lens arrangement and operating conditions. If the supplier offers multiple optical versions, confirm which version the quotation includes.
Do not use a count of LEDs as a performance rating. The behaviour of the finished signal depends on the assembly, including the light sources, optics and drive conditions. Nor should a full-ball report automatically be accepted as an arrow report.
Use photographs for the right job
Real photographs can show the indication, assembly and workmanship. They are useful for confirming that the sample corresponds to the order. They do not replace controlled optical measurements: camera exposure, viewing angle and background conditions change how an illuminated pattern appears.
Specify the photographs needed for identification: front view, rear label, connection arrangement and the relevant dimensions. Keep optical acceptance evidence in a separate part of the review package.
Check the retained housing and electrical version
For a replacement arrow module, compare the mounting and sealing arrangement with the existing head. Include cable clearance and access requirements. Confirm the controller interface using the proposed model's electrical documentation.
For a complete head, identify whether the price includes the visor and brackets. A satisfactory optical module does not by itself resolve the installation details of the full assembly.
Make approval repeatable
Record the model, optical version, drawing revision and approved indication in the purchase schedule. If a later batch changes the lens or drive arrangement, request a documented review rather than assuming the earlier sample approval covers it.
