The Anchor Bolt Template
The template is a steel frame that holds the anchor bolts in the exact bolt circle pattern during the concrete pour. The template sits on top of the foundation formwork with the bolt threads protruding upward.

Embedment Depth and Hook
Anchor bolt embedment is typically:
- 800 mm for M30 grade 8.8 bolts in C25 concrete
- 1000 mm for M36 grade 8.8 bolts in C25 concrete
- 1200 mm for high-load or seismic applications
The bottom of each bolt is bent into a 90-degree hook or fitted with a nut and washer plate to develop the bond strength with the concrete. GAOQIAO templates include the hook bend geometry.
Tolerance
Anchor bolt position tolerance is critical. The template must hold bolts within:
- ±3 mm in the bolt circle radius
- ±2 mm in verticality (lean)
- ±5 mm in projection height
A bolt out of position by more than 10 mm will not line up with the pole base plate. Use a spirit level on the template before the pour and re-check after the pour settles.
Torque Specification
Anchor bolts are torqued in two stages:
1. First torque (after concrete cures 7 days): snug tight, typically 50% of final torque 2. Final torque (after pole is erected): to specification, typically 800-1000 Nm for M30 grade 8.8 bolts
Use a calibrated torque wrench, not an impact driver. Mark each bolt after final torque with a paint pen so the maintenance crew can spot loosening.
