Solar LED Traffic Light: Prepare the Load Schedule Before Sizing Power

Updated 12 October 2026 · GAOQIAO Traffic Technology

A solar LED traffic light proposal should begin with an equipment load schedule and site information. Choosing a panel from the signal diameter, or accepting a fixed number of backup days without the calculation behind it, leaves important questions unanswered.

Solar power changes the supply design. It does not remove the need to approve the indication, controller interface, installation arrangement and maintenance plan.

Define what the solar system supplies

List the signal indications, controller, communications equipment, countdown displays and other required loads. Record whether the proposal includes all of these or only the lamps.

Separate equipment that operates continuously from equipment that operates for part of the cycle. Include any defined standby mode. The total should be traceable to the proposed configuration, not a different demonstration installation.

Calculate daily energy from declared inputs

For each load, multiply watts by operating hours per day. Add the results to obtain the daily watt-hour requirement before accounting for system losses and the design allowances selected by the power-system engineer.

For example, an assumed continuous 20W total load uses 480Wh per day. Two days at that load require 960Wh of delivered energy. Those figures do not specify the battery’s nominal capacity: usable capacity, temperature, conversion losses and operating limits still need to be considered. The example is arithmetic, not a GAOQIAO system rating or backup promise.

Send site data with the quotation request

Provide location, mounting arrangement, shading information and environmental requirements. Ask the designer to state the solar-resource basis and how difficult seasonal conditions were assessed.

A sunny-day demonstration is not evidence of year-round availability. If the design relies on a supplementary power source, state the changeover responsibilities and the equipment included in the quotation.

Check the signal supply interface

Confirm the input specification for the exact LED traffic light and controller versions. Record how the power-system operating range corresponds to those inputs. Do not assume that any low-voltage lamp can connect directly to any battery system.

The installation drawings should identify the protection, isolation and wiring arrangement designed for the project. Final electrical design and commissioning belong with the qualified project team.

Review service access and battery replacement

Determine where the power equipment will be installed, how it can be inspected and what information maintenance staff will receive. Ask for the replacement component references and the conditions attached to any service-life statement.

Compare offers using a consistent boundary: heads, control equipment, power system, mounting, documentation and commissioning scope. A lower price for fewer included components is not a like-for-like comparison.
