Start with the cabinet and monitor documentation
A conflict monitor or malfunction management unit (MMU) supervises defined cabinet conditions and initiates the specified response to a detected fault. Available functions, compatible cabinet types and reset behavior depend on the exact unit and its configuration. A general article cannot replace its test manual.
Prepare an approved test plan
Identify the cabinet type, monitor model, firmware, channel assignments and approved compatibility matrix. List the functions required by the project, the expected response, the test equipment and the records needed for acceptance. Confirm the relevant authority’s requirements and the applicable standard edition.
Keep testing separate from live traffic operation
Use an approved test environment and qualified personnel. Do not improvise faults on an operating public-road installation or bypass a protective function to keep signals running. Field work requires the responsible authority’s traffic-management and electrical safety arrangements.
Record results for each required function
Use the manufacturer’s procedure and compatible test equipment to exercise the required monitoring functions. Record the initial state, test condition, indication, output response and event record where supported. Confirm the specified latching and reset behavior; automatic restoration must not be assumed.
Close out acceptance
Investigate failed or ambiguous results before acceptance. Restore and verify the approved configuration, retain test records and obtain the required sign-off. Set inspection and retest intervals from the authority’s requirements, the manufacturer’s instructions and the maintenance plan, not an assumed universal annual rule.
