Define the movement the signal will control

Industrial traffic signals can provide visible instructions at warehouse access points, loading bays, parking entrances and routes shared by vehicles and pedestrians. Start by identifying the specific movement: permission to enter a bay, a stop indication at a barrier, or a warning that another movement is active. The required display should follow that operating task.

A red/green arrangement, a directional arrow and a pedestrian symbol convey different information. List the intended indication at each location and describe who must see it. Mounting space, vehicle height, obstructions and the background around the display should be considered in the installation design. A product family name does not determine suitability for a particular workplace.

Match the signal to the site interface

Identify the device that will command the signal, such as a site controller, barrier system or other specified equipment. Provide its electrical interface and the required supply. Confirm the proposed connection with the equipment supplier; matching wire colours or choosing a visually similar head is not enough to establish compatibility.

Describe the environment, including indoor or outdoor use, cleaning practices, moisture exposure and any location-specific requirements. Request the model’s relevant data and installation instructions. Where a signal forms part of machinery or a safety-related control function, the responsible designer must assess the complete system rather than treating an indicator lamp as a protective measure by itself.

Prepare a clear enquiry

Include a sketch or photographs, the number of signal locations, lens size, symbol arrangement, supply details and mounting measurements. For a replacement, add the existing model label and bracket dimensions. Agree who supplies the controller, cabling and supports, then keep the approved configuration with the site maintenance record.
