Distinguish service life from warranty
A traffic signal is an assembly of optical, electrical and mechanical components. An LED component life estimate does not directly state the service life of the complete signal head. A warranty is a contractual commitment with stated scope and conditions, not a prediction of failure time.
Ask what the life figure describes
Clarify whether a quoted figure concerns LED lumen maintenance, a driver, a module or the whole assembly. Ask for operating conditions, the end-of-life criterion and supporting evidence. Avoid comparing figures that use different definitions.
Consider the installation conditions
Temperature, supply quality, moisture, contamination, mechanical damage and maintenance can affect service performance. Check the specified environmental limits and installation requirements for the selected model. Do not infer performance solely from the LED brand or housing appearance.
Agree the warranty scope
Confirm the warranty period, covered components, exclusions, claim evidence and responsibility for transport or site labor in the quotation. Clarify whether the remedy is repair, replacement or another agreed action. Do not assume identical terms across all products.
Plan inspection and replacement
Keep model references, installation records and fault history. Inspect according to the maintenance plan and investigate abnormal output or repeated failures. Select replacement modules for electrical, optical and mechanical compatibility rather than size alone.
